Thermocouples, as a commonly used temperature measurement sensor, play a crucial role in many industrial fields and scientific research. However, due to the passage of time and the influence of the operating environment, the measurement accuracy of thermocouples may change. Therefore, regular calibration is essential.

The main purpose of thermocouple calibration is to ensure its measurement accuracy so that it can reliably reflect the actual temperature value. The calibration process is usually carried out in a specialized calibration laboratory, which needs to have a stable temperature environment and a high-precision reference thermometer. First, a visual inspection of the thermocouple to be calibrated is required to ensure that there is no obvious physical damage, such as the breakage of the thermocouple wire or the damage of the insulation layer.

Then, the thermocouple and the standard thermometer are placed together in a calibration furnace or a constant temperature bath with a uniform temperature. By gradually changing the temperature and recording the readings of the thermocouple and the standard thermometer at different temperature points. Generally, multiple temperature points are selected, including low, medium and high temperature ranges, to comprehensively evaluate the performance of the thermocouple. For example, measurements are made at temperature points such as -50℃, 0℃, 100℃, 500℃. Based on these measurement data, the error of the thermocouple can be calculated, and the measurement accuracy can be improved by adjusting or using correction factors.

The calibration results are usually recorded in a calibration report, which should include detailed information such as the model, serial number, calibration date, calibration temperature points, measurement error of the thermocouple. This information has important reference value for subsequent quality control, process optimization and temperature-related research. Only the accurately calibrated thermocouple can provide reliable temperature data for industrial production and scientific research and ensure the smooth progress of related work.
