In special industries such as aerospace, nuclear energy, and biopharmaceuticals, thermocouple calibration faces unique application scenarios and numerous challenges.
In the aerospace field, thermocouples are used in key parts such as engine temperature monitoring and aircraft surface temperature measurement. Due to the extreme flight environment, including high temperature, high pressure, high-speed airflow impact, and strong electromagnetic interference, thermocouples must have extremely high reliability and accuracy. The calibration work not only needs to be carried out in a simulated flight environment but also places unprecedented requirements on the stability and anti-interference ability of the calibration equipment. For example, the calibration of thermocouples near the high-temperature parts of the engine requires the calibration equipment to withstand temperatures above a thousand degrees Celsius and maintain accurate temperature control while resisting the strong electromagnetic interference generated by the engine operation to ensure that the thermocouples can accurately feedback temperature information during flight and ensure flight safety.

In the nuclear energy industry, thermocouples are used to monitor the core temperature of nuclear reactors and the temperature changes of cooling systems. The calibration work here involves strict radiation protection requirements. Calibration personnel need to operate under special protective facilities, and the calibration equipment also needs to have radiation resistance. In addition, since the safety of nuclear reactor operation is of vital importance, the calibration accuracy of thermocouples must be controlled within a very small range. Any tiny error may lead to a misjudgment of the reactor state and thus cause a serious safety accident.

The biopharmaceutical industry has extremely strict requirements for temperature control to ensure the quality and stability of the drug production process. Thermocouples are used for temperature monitoring of equipment such as reactors and storage tanks. Their calibration needs to follow strict Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) for drugs. The calibration process must ensure a sterile environment to prevent thermocouples from contaminating drugs. Moreover, to meet the high requirements for temperature accuracy in the drug production process, the calibration accuracy of thermocouples usually needs to reach ±0.1℃ or even higher, which is a huge test for calibration equipment and the professional level of technical personnel.
