Metrology certification is the assessment of the capabilities of product quality inspection agencies by the national government metrology administrative department.

Its purpose is to ensure that the quality inspection agencies provide fair data to the society, which is accurate and reliable.

Metrology certification is a mandatory government action. It is organized by the National Certification and Accreditation Administration and local administrative departments. Metrology certification is mainly based on the document [2000]046 "Criteria for Metrology Certification/Review and Accreditation (Acceptance) Review of Product Quality Inspection Agencies" and GB/T15481-2000 "General Requirements for the Capabilities of Testing and Calibration Laboratories".

After passing the assessment, the metrology certification certificate is issued, using the "CMA" standard seal. The assessment period is 5 years, and it will be reviewed upon expiration.
